This famous seaside road is always elegantly decorated with flowers and follows the harmonious curve of Baie des Anges. Originally a footpath no more than 6 feet wide, it was widened by an Englishman, Reverend Lewis Way, at his expense in 1820 and the local population soon dubbed it ‘Chemin des Anglais’. In 1931, when it was given its final form with two roadways separated by a central reservation planted with palm trees, the ‘Prom’ was inaugurated by the Duke of Connaught, one of Queen Victoria’s sons.

It is world-famous for its blue chairs and shingle beaches, the 8km-long curve along Baie des Anges and the palm trees. In the 19th century, British visitors adopted Baie des Anges as their favourite home away from home in winter, bestowing their name to this now internationally-known Promenade.

Promenade des Anglais is always beautifully decked in flowers, with many public and private beaches on one side and the prestigious façades of luxury hotels and buildings on the other, recalling the Belle Epoque. White pergolas, rebuilt in the spirit of the time, provide welcome shade from which to contemplate the sea. At any time of the day or night, Promenade des Anglais is magical. Thousands of people throng here on foot, on roller skates or on bikes. The elegant coastal road is a bustling area where the people of Nice and tourists can meet; an outdoor art gallery when used to exhibit monumental artworks, as well as athletic events. Its extension, Quai des Etats-Unis stretches all the way to the Port, between Old Nice and its narrow streets, the Castle Hill and the Mediterranean Sea.

A 7-kilometre long strip of road overlooking the azure waves of the sea: such is the legendary decor of your next event
